Wildlife– While it depends how close you’ll be to the wildlife you want to photograph (more on that later), the super fast focus of this lens combined with burst mode shooting is a winner for capturing wildlife photos. The Fuji XF 90mm f/2 lens on the left is significantly smaller and lighter than the XF 50-140mm lens on the right. (All the lens pictures in this article including this one were shot with the XF 60mm f/2.4 wide open) This is a professionally-constructed metal-bodied and metal-mounted lens. This is made really clear from the outside by the provision of a tripod collar - which is used to give balance to the camera using a tripod or monopod, but because it rotates also allow you to smoothly switch from landscape to portrait formats. When used on the X-mount cameras with their 1.52x crop factor, it sees the same angle of view as a 75-210mm lens sees when used on a 35mm camera.

is the equivalent range of 76-213mm on a 35mm/full frame sensor ( every lens mounted on an APS-C camera has the crop factor of the camera applied) Tamron – Need lightweight, compact mirrorless lenses? Tamron has you covered, with superior optics perfect for any situation. With weather sealing and advanced image stabilization, you’ll open up your creative possibilities. I probably wouldn’t spend the money on a 100-400mm lens unless I knew I would be shooting wildlife regularly (and, for example, didn’t live in the middle of a big city…which I do). A happy penguin couple 🙂 Should you also buy a teleconverter? The couple of times I noticed that the rendering was unpleasant were around city scenes, and only sometimes. Wires, sharp edges, and other man-made features tended to have a very defined nature to the blur. This I found unpleasant, but with a small change in focal length, I was able to alter the feeling of the bokeh. The reach. You really need to decide for yourself if 140mm (or 280mm with a teleconverter) goes far enough for you.

The Fujifilm XF 50-140mm F2.8 R LM OIS WR lens has an internal focusing (IF) system with a very quiet linear motor. In practice, we found the auto-focus to be fast, almost silent and with very little hunting even in low-light. Thanks to the IF mechanism the front of the lens does not rotate on focus, which is very good news for anyone looking to use the lens in conjunction with a polariser or graduated neutral density filter. Chromatic Aberrations This is the first time I will use a telephoto in YEARS, so go easy on me 🙂 Fuji 50-140mm review Build Quality Do I need the f2.8 aperture, weather resistance, and opportunity to extend with a teleconverter, e.g. for wildlife photography? Get the 50-140mm f2.8. Distortion is completely invisible, at least as shot as JPGs on my Fuji X-E2, which for all I know is correcting it automatically. Finally it is worth noting that, despite its age, Fujifilm has put on its list of just 20 XF lenses that can make the most out of the 40.2-megapixel resolution of its new flagship X-H2 and X-T5 cameras.

Here's a shot directly into the sun. You won't see anything this bad in actual use, but if you go out of your way to do stupid things like this (pointing a telephoto lens directly into mid-day sun), you'll see flare and ghosts like this: The Fuji XF 50-140mm OIS WR is the best APS-C telephoto zoom of any brand. It's optically superb, has fantastic image stabilization and is faster and better made than the others. Crop from above image at 100%. If this is about 6" (15cm) on your screen, printing the complete image at this same high magnification would result in a 50 x 30" (125 x 85 cm) print! This lens also comes with a tripod foot you can attach, so you can mount a tripod on the lens itself instead of the body. This is important to reduce strain on the lens mount. You can extend it with a teleconverter

Where to buy this lens

If you want this on your X-T1 you should get the battery grip. It makes the camera balance with the lens much better. If you are a Fuji shooter, the performance relative to lenses on other systems is irrelevant. This is a unique lens on the Fuji platform, and, as such, is arguably one of the most important. It serves a very important function for those that need a fast telephoto zoom as the only real option. But the critique is this: on most other major platforms photographers have several options at this zoom range; Fuji shooters deserve no less. But let’s compare it side-by-side with its closest competitor, the 55-200mm. Lions in Kruger National Park, South Africa. Inside the micro-corrugated cardboard box are pulp-formed cardboard holders for the plastic-wrapped lens and hood. A small folded tray of microcorrugated cardboard lies on top to hold the manual and lens wrapping cloth. I found that the comparison was made using Adobe which as we know gives a distinct disadvantage in RAW processing.
