But it may also strike some as overly simplistic, since the tone veers towards childish at times (""We've all seen how Bullies work.

Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, saying, "Oh that you would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory! Best-selling author Bruce Wilkinson shows how to identify and overcome the obstacles that keep millions from living the lives they were created for. There is only one criticism I have for this book is that it failed to provide a practical way of accomplished your dreams. It is so easy to be caught up with ordinary events, chores and expectations of "not rocking the boat" and are sometimes misdirected and choose to place our dreams and goals on the shelf, to gather dust. There is a significant need for Bible training among pastors and disciple-makers in the Global South. The Dream Giver proves to be a book that it is as equally inspiring and thought-provoking as it is short and compact. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

These obstacles can be in the people closest to us as well as things like fear, rejection, and insecurities. For those that have dreams but are yet to start the journey of pursuing it, this book is also for you :) As someone who is currently on the journey, I could resonate with the various phases explained in the book. I give him the title of coach because Champion asks questions of Ordinary and through conversation challenges Ordinary to look past his defensiveness to question what is causing this perceived bullying.

One night, as I bend over the stream in the dark to shake the heavy nightmares out of the dreamcatcher, I am startled by a figure standing on the other side, looking at me.As a coach this experience is invaluable because this is what our clients going through meaningful change will experience. Of course I wished a flame was lit ablaze for me while reading this, but I’m sure a spark has developed and just needs time to simmer and grow. Told in the form of an allegory of an individual named Ordinary, The Dream Giver takes him on a journey from his land of Familiar and away from his Comfort Zone into the land of the unknown as he pursues his Dream. Bruce has helped me to see that taking proper time in Sanctuary with the Dream Giver, is crucial to the next leg of the Dream journey.

I also love how it shows how much God plays a huge role in our dreams and that we need to rely on Him for help along the way. Bruce Wilkerson still has the gift of telling a story with clarity, relate it to key events in the Bible and is able to clearly explain it in simple terms and illustrations. Anyway, the book also gives an outline on what to do to pursue those dreams regardless of ones' age or life predicaments. You could easily read this entire book in one sitting and blow it off, but I would really encourage you to take some time with it and maybe even read it more than once at different times in your journey. And, I say all this knowing it is easier said than done for any of us when we are in the middle of a conversation/coaching session with someone. Having read Ordinary's tale, I now understand so much more about the process of developing a Big Dream, inspired by the Dream Giver. What I love is that Champion doesn’t stay with Ordinary throughout his journey but is key in helping him move through this situation with his own value intact. The parable takes you through the thoughts and actions of the character to the end of accomplishing his dream.
