Description

Mission states that the preamp section is kept as simple as possible to maintain signal purity, with line input signals passing to a precision, microprocessor-controlled analogue volume stage. This is partnered with carefully planned preamp circuitry, protecting it from noise interference in concert with independent low-noise power supplies for all critical stages. In a detailed technical sense, the Mission is not radical. There’s no part of the specification where you go ‘ooh, that’s innovative’ and there are two reasons for this. The first is that at the price point in this (very) inflationary world we find ourselves in, the scope to start using unobtanium resistors and the like is pretty limited. The second is that IAG has leveraged its extensive catalogue to get parts and facilities into the Mission that would almost certainly be impossible to do if it was being designed as a standalone product from a different manufacturer.

Around the time that I celebrated my Bar Mitzvah in 1983, British loudspeaker manufacturer, Mission, introduced its first integrated amplifier — the Mission 778. The 778 wasn’t ground breaking and it’s probably accurate to say that the industrial design was inspired by the earliest Naim amplifiers of the 1970s that featured a rather compact, half-width chassis. Equal in performance to standalone headphone amplifiers, beyond the price- class of this complete system, the design offers high-speed output signal transition thanks to a high slew rate. The result is a dynamic, detailed and engaging performance with all manner of headphone types. Model The Cyrus is more in your face but doesn't hide a poor recording. It's a fantastic amp that, once set up is easy to use and doesn't even require that you add a source (stream Qobuz high res to it and see just how good it can be). It's that initial setup, however, that can get really frustrating. It's not intuitive and it rarely works first time. Get by that and you have a beautiful, compact and quirky but of hifi.The first reason that we’re especially excited is that it shares so much of the same DNA as its more expensive sibling and comes with a few firsts for the company. Highlights include that the Naia's skeletal plinth is now made out of carbon fibre – a first for Rega. The RB titanium tonearm is also new.

It is a small, chunky, metal, half-width integrated amplifier. With Bluetooth and a phono input. I purposely sought this out as I was very much interested in a half-width amp for my own use.
