Description

Beginning production after her 1979 tour, Never for Ever was Bush's second foray into production (her first was for the On Stage EP the previous year), aided by the engineer of Lionheart (1978), Jon Kelly. [5] Bush was keen to start producing her work and felt that this was the first album she was happy with, since it was more personal.

In Bush’s absence, Pat “Love Is a Battlefield” Benatar’s AOR cover of Wuthering Heights became the best-known version of the song in the United States.

26 Issues

In an interview that year Bush described the song as her “little symphony”, adding that she considered it her best work to date. Bush stated that the information within the song mostly came from a documentary she had seen about the effects of nuclear war, while the tone of the song was inspired by Pink Floyd’s The Wall.

This album could be considered The Dreaming as a toddler; the ideas are there but haven't been completely developed yet. Never for Ever was the first album that Kate really had control over and it straddles the line between the catchy pop songs of her first two releases and the arty unconventional songs on her next two. The result is mostly good with just a bit of bad.
