I was turned down for the ARC by NetGalley and was so excited to get my hands on this highly anticipated book. I was still interested in the proceedings; it is just that instead of enjoying the story as a fresh tale, I found myself playing detective and figuring out the twists based on the similarity to the first book. As he continues showing me their incredible penthouse apartment, I have a terrible feeling about the woman behind closed doors.

i’m thinking maybe it was easier to predict some things because freida taught me not to trust anyone. he is the epitome of sweetness, i'll-be-there-for-you, so it genuinely saddens me to see him in such a state because he reminds me so much of michael from the naturals series. The pacing was slower than the first book, but there are plenty of creative twists and red herrings that will keep you on your toes. Revenge drives this twisty jaw-dropping thriller, and the author keeps the suspense high throughout. The appearance of the second character’s pov created a huge déjà vu moment, as I knew it would contradict everything Millie had told us so far.

I finally have the chance to use a phrase so many of my reviewer-friends do: it’s a popcorn thriller! McFadden is truly making a name for herself and I look forward to reading every single thing she’s written and all her future novels. she’s one of those dense people who would be dead by the opening of any horror movie because they weren’t smart enough to leave the danger behind, and kept purposely ignoring all the signs.

She is an exceptional author as I’ve read some of her other books as well but I was anxiously waiting for the sequel to “The Housemaid” because it was one of the best novels I read in 2022. I have no doubt that McFadden will probably stay close to her tried and tested formula and I’m not sure how much more she can up the craziness until it becomes entirely inconceivable, but I’m craving a little bit more than the saving housewives plot that we’ve seen in the last two novels. She has been dating Brock for the last six months, an attorney from a well-to-do family, but he does not know about her past, nor is she planning on telling him. i must admit, i despised wendy for all the terrible things she did, while feeling sympathetic towards millie, who seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I really enjoy the style of writing, the plot twists and the character development and I plan to read more by this author, no doubt!it's such a shame that you'll be sad because you'll be unable to enjoy the most exciting part due to the spoiler ahead, hehe! Yet, I know that once I do, I will probably be every bit as obsessed and hooked as I have been for the past two. I've long given up trying to predict her endings; I just sit back and enjoy the dark humor that permeates many of her stories and trust the ride that she takes me on.
