I’ve sent the extra copy to the lovely friend who introduced me to the podcast in the first place to say thank you for the hours of free entertainment I’ve benefitted from. His discussion of a horrendously racist 1996 storyline in which the character Julie Martin accuses her new Chinese neighbours of killing and barbecuing her missing dog is grimly fascinating though. reads like one of those projects where a publisher throws a book deal and topic at a well known comedian in the assumption that this name recognition will guarantee both sales and chuckles. I haven't previously paid much attention to Josh's comedy career but I can honestly say this was the funniest book that I've read in a while, Josh has a sarcastic, dry sense of humour and I found myself regularly chuckling whilst reading. Recorded at London’s Hammersmith Apollo, viewers of this tale twisting perfectionist can expect an insight into Josh’s everyday annoyances and gripes.

Unlike those who might pretend to have it all together, Rob and Josh comfortably discuss the highs and lows of parenting. There's jamming in the kitchen, laughter in the lounge and poetry on the landing - and a whole lot more fun and frolics going on upstairs. More importantly in this post-TV age he hosts one of the country's most popular podcasts - Parenting Hell - with fellow comedian Rob Beckett and cult '90s football podcast Quickly Kevin; Will He Score? Josh Widdecombe seems like a thoroughly decent bloke and all-round ‘good egg’, so I feel slightly sheepish having to slate his book. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, it’s just a book for a very specific group of people who need an easy read.

Despite us both remembering Todd Landers being run over, there is little cross-over (he doesn’t mention ‘Plain Jane Super Brain’ or Dr. The format is different to any other comedy autobiography and it allowed me a high level of nostalgia and reminiscence. This comes from someone who is not necessarily a super mega fan of Josh Widdicombe, just someone with a normal level of fandom.

I also really enjoyed the chapters written by Rose and Lou (Josh and Rob’s respective wives) and by the Widdicombe and Beckett parents – as well as by childfree producer Michael. I think it helps further if you were a child or teenager in the 90's but I think you'd enjoy it regardless. Filled with all the things they never tell you at antenatal classes, Parenting Hell is a beguiling mixture of humour and conversation from the hosts of the no.Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you.
