About this deal

is a new version that reproduces one of the first prototypes made, whose firm sculptural form, which has always been the appeal of this enigmatic object, is enhanced by the bronze used to make it. What was a spontaneous idea of the designer Philippe Starck on holiday turns out to be a surprisingly revolutionary and functional lemon squeezer - the Juicy Salif by Alessi. For instance, their "Juicy Salif" citrus squeezer, designed by Philippe Starck, resembles a spaceship rather than a traditional kitchen tool.

In the fifties, he became managing director of the company, introducing a new international dimension, which he developed by working with external designers. A truly iconic object and symbol not only of Philippe Starck but of Alessi itself, this citrus squeezer - as revolutionary as it is surprisingly functional - was sketched in its essentials by Starck during a holiday by the sea in Italy, on a pizzeria napkin.Starck became one of the most famous designers of that time and designed everything from apartment blocks, homes, domestic products and hotels. Alberto Alessi, in a recorded video interview posted on Dezeen, said "I am very happy with this project because I consider it a big joke to everybody. For design enthusiasts who want to have fun, feeling like Alice in a world of great huge design objects, to impress with a decidedly unconventional piece of furniture: Juicy Salif has never been a bigger icon. In our Orientations series, members of the LGBTQIA+ community explore an object that resonates with their identity.

One of the most iconic designs of our time, the transparent Louis Ghost chair, was one of the results of the cooperation with Kartell. In a publication released by Alessi the 25th anniversary of the design, Philippe Starck states that the original intent of the product was not to actually be functional but to spark conversation. The designer sketched the basic idea for the press on a napkin, which Alessi finally put into practice in 1990. The juice then flows down along the side edges of the tapered body and is finally concentrated by the pointed end straight into the drinking glass. They started on the left, and as they worked their way over to the right, they took on the unmistakable shape of what was to become the juicy salif.Alessi is now a B Corp, a company which strives to maximise the positive impact they have on their employees, the communities in which they operate and the environment, by using the business as a force for regeneration and sustainability. From everyday products, furniture and lemon squeezers, to revolutionary mega yachts, hotels that stimulate the senses, phantasmagorical venues and individual wind turbines, he never stops pushing the limits and criteria of contemporary design. But anyways: This piece of art from the school of anti functionality looks really sharp in your showcase, just as it does at the MoMa/NYC.

The kitchen tool is not dishwasher-safe, and must be washed by hand, while taking care to avoid injury from its sharp point.

The squeezer impresses with its futuristic look, which is reminiscent of both a rocket and the filigree shape of a spider - the actual function takes a back seat. I received a napkin from Starck, on it among some incomprehensible marks (tomato sauce, in all likelihood) there were some sketches.
