About this deal

Number 5, her pearl necklaces, her love of fashion, her commitment to elegance and style, her devotion to her Maison, a love story with an Englishman and rumours of nazi simpathies. Simon examines the world both reflected and shaped by Chanel, setting her life and work within the context of events in France and America from before the First World War to the profound social changes of the 1960s. But we see her relationships, her career and her tenacity in making it in a world that at the time was not always open to women.

Simon’s lively book is a clear-eyed perspective on a woman whose influence and legend transcend the world of fashion.

Just like the classic black dress she created, the author not only added his own predict of why she make this artwork, but also added small details on each part of dress, and Chanel's first perfume, No5, 5 is her lucky number, which is also the origin of the name of this perfume. I loved the flow of this book sticking to an easy timeline but going back into depths for certain areas.

As with all our products, we produce the designs in-house and welcome any customisations/alterations, just ask. if you are interested in trying to demystify the woman behind the myth, this is a wonderful place to start. She was born into a poor family and was abandoned into an orphanage y her father when her mother dies. Although the book as a whole has a lot of details about Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel's life, I found the journalism very, very poor. The book is such a fascinating read and very inspirational and I absolutely adore the accompanying images. She studied Visual Communication at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and illustration at the University of the Arts Berlin, where she is based now. I’d highly recommend this to anyone looking for an interesting overview of her life and for gaining deeper insight into dispelling the rumors and confirming the knowns and unknowns out there. We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. Linda Simon teases apart the myth that Chanel and her adoring public collaborated to create, and explores its contradictions – Chanel was a self-proclaimed recluse who emerged as one of the most spectacular personalities of her time; she was a brilliant businesswoman who signed away 90 per cent of her company; a genius who claimed she was nothing more than an artisan.

From there, she became a cabaret singer, seamstress, hat maker, and, eventually, the world’s most famous fashion designer. The explosive narrative is intriguing because it is still disputed whether Chanel was a Nazi collaborator during the war or worked for Germany’s military intelligence agency just to save her nephew. This book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the designer's life. This special new edition has been extensively revised and updated, and offers a uniquely authoritative account of the greatest designer in the world. All our designs are designed in-house by us, should you require any changes to the design such as the layout or even extra text to make it extra special, just ask! When I was looking for a book about Chanel I was looking to find information and inspiration, as a young professional woman, a designer in a male-dominated industry I wanted to hear her voice, to understand her creative vision, to learn more about her business decisions and how a woman from a plane background managed to create an empire in an era when women had to fight for the right to do business.
