About this deal

The long drawn out conclusion – Dave walks into a trap, is “caught” and escapes – simply defies belief. The twists and subplots are what keep the book going and although at times it is a bit far fetched, he keeps the momentum going until you are gasping for breath.

If I had been prepared for the change, I wouldn't have minded it so much, but as it was I was trying to solve the mystery when it seemed like this supernatural deus ex machina changed all the rules. A year after the death of her son Alex, Mary Towne is convinced she's seen him alive – and she wants missing persons investigator David Raker to find him. Secondly, the book is perfectly paced - with action where action is needed and a more sedate "humming along" just when you need to get your breath back. Good story but over emphasised at times, obviously to increase the dramatic effect but was over cooked for me at times. Becoming a parent forced him to consider a career with more reliable income, and he got a job as an MRI tech at Hershey Medical Center. We first met Joe Pullman in Napier's 2005 debut, Summer of the Cicada, which opened with him being beaten to a pulp by his father. Suffice to say there is a fanatical religious undertone to the proceedings and in the final pages a somewhat miraculous discovery about Alex Towne's family which I found somewhat unbelievable. I like Raker, he's solid, a thinker, devoted to his craft and a doer but underneath all that he's human and makes mistakes.

The reason I'm wavering between three and four stars is because whilst I really enjoyed it on the most part, it kept me up till 3am reading, the ending was a little ridiculous. Chasing the Dead is the first in the series and Raker is hired to find Alex Towne by his mother Mary, although reported dead she confirms, to our finder of lost people, that her son is alive.Really enjoyed this first book in the series - good job as I've got the next nine either as books or on kindle! Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Vanished by Tim Weaver, read by Joe Coen and Andrew Brooke. It was an easy way to spend a few bathroom breaks, a quick read, offered a couple of cheap thrills, and will ultimately be forgotten. For the most part I really enjoyed this one too, going back to the introduction of David Raker's escapades was a good idea.

Chasing the Dead is the first book in the extremely popular David Raker series which was published in 2010 and the latest book (10) No One Home is being published in May 2019. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. But despite the hundreds of people who went missing every day of every year, I’m not sure that I ever expected to make a living out of trying to find them. Tim Weaver is the Sunday Times bestselling author of thirteen novels, including No One Home, The Blackbird and The Last Goodbye, and a short story collection. The pace romps along, and although the plot's holes could have rivalled our cosmic black hole (and I'm still not completely sure exactly what the bad-guy was.

I picked this up after a recommendation from a friend, expecting to find another good,if not shiny new, addition to the crime fiction genre. His novels are Broken Heart, What Remains, Fall From Grace, Never Coming Back, Vanished, The Dead Tracks, and Chasing the Dead. I looked at this book and thought, OK the story idea sounds good - woman gets put through the wringer when her daughter is kidnapped, then I saw that the book was just shy of 200 pages. The change is wonderfully done, finally giving you a protagonist who is entirely human, and yet, heroic in his own way.Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). And yet, after a while, when the money really started coming in, Derryn persuaded me to rent some office space down the road from our home, in an effort to get me out, but also – more than that, I think – to convince me I could make a career out of what I was doing. With interesting characters and a gripping writing style, you will not be able to put down the book. A year after the death of her son Alex, Mary Towne is convinced she’s seen him alive – and wants missing persons investigator David Raker to find him.
