About this deal

Suzume and her fellow dinokeepers are real dinosaur lovers, and determined to have the animals in their care be loved and celebrated. While these real-life topics can be rather grim, Dinosaur Sanctuary never becomes outright pessimistic, keeping up a fairly optimistic tone that makes this manga fun to read.

Some of them might be dangerous, but they are not ravenous, bloodthirsty monsters that crave murder at every waking moment (like the theropods in the Jurassic film franchise). Through a careful long-term breeding program, humanity helped these dinosaurs thrive once again, making them populous enough for specimens to be exported overseas for zoos and theme parks worldwide. This attitude is featured throughout the book, but especially in the triceratops story, where they innovate new ways to tell the story of this one dinosaur to help him regain some admiration. Shin-ichi Fujiwara) discussing in more details about the palaeontological and zoological science that formed the basis for that chapter. The dinosaurs featured are pretty accurately portrayed; lining up well with our current paleontologic information.

Don't get me wrong, I liked both the first Jurassic park book (second one I still have to read) and the first two movies. While all the staff at Enoshima Dinoland care about the well-being of the dinosaurs there, their philosophies and priorities differ due to their respective personalities and life experiences. The series also has a specialist as consultant, so as much of the information and designs are as accurate as possible. The informational signs outside the Dilophosaurus exhibit state that it does not spit poison or have a neck frill. Artistic License – Animal Care: Dinoland is apparently struggling to keep up with its bills so much that hiring even one more employee risks pushing them into bankruptcy, but it has at least eleven elephant-sized (or larger) animals (several of which are carnivores, which are far more expensive to feed than herbivores) and relatively few small ones. In the first chapter, when Suzume arrives at the zoo, she comforts a group of schoolchildren scared by Enoshima Dinoland's Giganotosaurus by explaining how dinosaurs aren't all scary through pointing out that birds are also dinosaurs, establishing her primary characteristics - her passion for and knowledge in dinosaurs, her desire to help people understand and connect with dinosaurs better, and her general kind and helpful nature.

Through breeding and genetic manipulation, humans managed to increase their population and supercharge their popularity! Between chapters, there a lot of additional information and curiosities about the things covered in the chapters. When dinosaurs were found to have survived to modern times, people were enthralled–until a catastrophic incident drove dino-mania to extinction. Greeting an excited crowd at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2024, executive producer Iyoku came bearing an exciting new character trailer and early designs for the crowd. I appreciate the amount of love and care that was put into getting not only the depictions of dinosaurs in the series correct, but really making them feel like actual characters and living beings.

Tommy is also part of the wonderful Gallimaufric Science podcast, which you really should listen to.

Jonathon is also a major anime fan, having been exposed to the medium through shows like Sailor Moon and Revolutionary Girl Utena. I for one enjoyed this fist part and will certainly continue on in this series, hoping to see many more dinosaurs up close! And it is through her perspective and experiences that the reader learns about the different species of dinosaurs at Dinoland, and their husbandry needs. And being shown that from the eyes of an enthusiastic girl starting work in a small dinosaur park in Japan, that is on the brink of closure, and having to deal with a surly colleague and a mystery concerning her father, was very entertaining.

After all the very intimate and humane stories of the previous volume it would be easy for this upping of the stakes to focus on the drama of a dinosaur rampage; but that isn’t what happens at all.
