About this deal

The app will let you choose between six modes and a variety of features including a braking mode and theft alarm. Give your bicycle lamp more power with our accumulator battery pack, for safe trips out on your bike.

Bontrager’s Ion Pro RT strikes an excellent balance between a high lumen output and a consistent, pleasingly coloured and well-focused beam pattern. Different back pieces and bands fit various shaped tubes/posts, the single LED strip is angled and it charges in two hours. Probably made in China like the rest of them, unless it's one of these or similar BT-70791CK, BB-2590/U 7.Battery packs offer you the advantage of (re)charging at home and their use extends beyond powering bicycle lights. A rear light’s main role is to help make you visible to other road users, so having decent brightness and battery life is essential because it needs to last the length of whatever ride you’re taking on while also being powerful enough for other road users to see it from a good distance. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). We set a lower limit of 1,500 claimed lumens when testing mountain bike lights, which is more than ample to provide safe and well-lit shredding. We also highly rated the Exposure Six Pack MK11, the MK12's predecessor, which is also well worth considering.

This wider beam spread means it’s easier to see around turns, too – something that needs to be considered if you’re not running a dual-bar and lid-mounted setup. Lezyne’s Macro Drive 1300XXL delivers a monstrous 1,300-lumen output in its ‘Overdrive’ mode that is more than enough to navigate on unlit roads or gravel paths. The Mk17 Race sits at the bottom of Exposure's bike headlight range, but it's still an excellent light from the British brand. We found the mount didn’t hold the light quite securely enough though, so there was a tendency for the beam to drop down. A further intelligent mode setting switches from day flash to night mode as the ambient light level changes. It’s fixed with the Velcro straps but sits quite proud of the frame, reducing potential mounting points. Yes, the battery pack is shipped with the charge condition around 30% so it is very important that the battery is fully charged before first use.

The other option is to get a light that runs off of common, easily replaceable cells like 14500 or 18650 lithium or standard AA size NiMH. Unfortunately, there's no pulse mode and it's a little fiddly to use on the move, but the X-Pro is otherwise a very useful rear light. The Lezyne Hecto Drive XL's 500 lumens is enough for a decent pace on unlit bike paths, though with only one hour of run time at maximum output, the Hecto is best for use as an urban light.

The Micro-USB charging standard isn't quite as up-to-date as USB-C and the light can shift slightly under heavier shocks.
