About this deal

All significant birdwatching areas in the region are analysed under the headings 'Habitat', 'Timing', 'Sites', Access' and 'Calendar', providing all the information necessary to make the most of each and every trip, whatever the time of year. This walk takes you through the varied terrain of the New Forest and begins from the car park near Bolton’s Bench. This is a beautiful trail in the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, exploring the Chidham Peninsula. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. These have all been brought together in one place in readable and highly colourful accounts of every bird species found in Hampshire over the period.

I am very poor at identifying birds of prey but whilst travelling by car along the A303 in the Micheldever area of Hampshire (approx 15 miles from The Hawk Conservancy in Andover) yesterday, 19th June, I spotted a large bird with long, slender wings hovering high above the road. A majority of bird of prey species are under pressure to a lesser or greater extent and the conservation actions used to defend against these threats are varied and often innovative.

If walking in the area be careful as the nests can be near paths, and if you bring a dog make sure to keep an eye on it so it doesn’t disturb the birds. Receive our free weekly newsletter which includes our popular Photo of the Week and Review of the Week features, plus competitions, special offers and much more. NOTE: There are two Beacon Hills in Hampshire, this is the one near Warnford, not the one near Burghclere). Colins Tubbs provides a detailed insight into how the New Forest landscape was formed and into its distinctive flora and fauna; he traces the fascinating parallel threads of natural and social history.

His photographs are in constant demand, and are published in a growing number of countries around the world. Majestic red kites have been seen soaring across the area, as well as brightly coloured yellowhammers, hoppy fieldfares and chirpy woodlarks. Almost half a century later these have not yet been accepted into the Dorset avifauna and therefore risked being lost down the recording cracks. Birds eat different things: try seeds for sparrows and finches, fat balls for tits, and fruit and worms for thrushes and robins. In this way, the book highlights some of the longer-term changes in Hampshire’s evolving birdlife and links these seamlessly with the shorter-term and often one-off appearances of transient visitors from much farther afield. b) The mute swans took "duck food" readily but it stayed away at 4 metres distance and appeared wary at all times. The route starts from the station car park (the terminus of the Watercress Line heritage steam railway) and crosses the town to join the riverside path along the pretty River Alre.
