Luckily I caught this early on and was able to get some towels around the fermentor, to at least keep some heat in. I filled my stainless steel fermenter with water and now I am going to try and figure out the best on/off intervals to maintain a constant temperature – i was wondering if you have any suggestions at all? Wrap this heat belt around your fermenting bin (fits anything up to 30 litres), or a couple of demijohns, to keep your home brew warm when fermenting. I use a brew belt during the cooler months of the year as the room where my fermenter sits is a little colder than the rest of the house.

A brew belt may be insufficient in the cold winter months, the solution is easy, just cover the FV with a blanket. The only silly thing about it is the random drawer string with plastic toggle used to tighten the belt around the bucket, its unnecessarily fiddly, but doesn't inhibit the basic hating function of the product. Some electric heat pads have automatic shut-off features, which turn off the pad after a specific time to prevent overheating or accidents.
