About this deal

The idea is that John Grogan is a budding reporter on a Florida paper whose wife, Jennifer, is actually the better journalist with the better career. So John's editor, himself a bit of a grumpy old hound played by Alan Arkin, makes him do the column daily, for twice the money.

The previous two times I had caught it in the middle of one of its insanely violent sequences that disturbed me deeply when I saw it at the age of ten.Families can talk about how challenging behavior can be frustrating but can also help families bond. As it was many years ago since I last the film I had actually forgot about it until a friend of mine was talking about it, funily enough only last week. From what I remember a group of kids living in Northern Ireland, probably Belfast, get their kicks from stealing and joy-riding around in cars. Owen Wilson stars in this movie version of the bestselling heart-wrenching 2005 memoir by American journalist John Grogan about his family's adored labrador, Marley. On Metacritic, the film has a score of 53 out of 100, based on 30 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".

W]hatever Marley wants to be about—the challenges of marriage or the balancing act between career and family—gets subsumed by pet tricks. Jenny and John pursue the American dream: a nice house in a good neighborhood, a nice car, a big trip, etc. He chews up books, boots, chairs, floor tiles, rugs, various undergarments and children’s toys, to name but a few. It's a film that offers no answers for either situation, just a litany of wasted lives and tragic circumstances that makes the actions of our central characters a little more understandable.

That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. This leads to an ever-increasing scale of confrontations between the reckless youths and various authorities and would-be authorities, leavened only by the youngsters' grim, graveyard humor. Animated and emotionally accessible, Aniston comes off better here than in most of her feature films, and Wilson spars well with her, even if, in the film's weaker moments, he shows he's on less certain ground with earnest material than he is with straight-faced impertinence. I love movies like these that can never fail to make you feel emotions your supposed to feel while watching!
