About this deal

When the average American says he or she is making a living, it isn’t a living they’re making, oh no!

The brain is an expert illusionist, constantly speaking, constantly fantasizing (at least mine, who’s with me? De Mello includes a multitude of engaging short stories, analogies, and anecdotes throughout the book to illustrate his key points. So why waste this flash in time with being worried, afraid, or running after the wrong goals and ideals we believe are true.I think that each person will find at least one grain of truth or a quote that speaks to themselves while reading this. You weren’t thinking about what the future held, how you would attain that goal, or how you would be able to pay your bills. I already knew that when you have a negative issue the road to take is in flipping the questions towards myself. If they don’t wake up, they’re always going to have these other minor ills like hunger, wars, and violence. Take away human beings from this planet and life would go on, nature would go on in all its loveliness and violence.

Because if you do, the next thing you will be doing is demanding other people contribute to your happiness.

When a sailboat has a mighty wind in its sail, it glides along so effortlessly that the boatman has nothing to do but steer. De Mello's illustrative material includes insights from Christian mystics, Islamic sayings, Buddhist parables, and much more. This is one that has really sunk in with me the last few years as I’ve been transitioning careers and have had to take a step back financially from my previous career.

The scriptures are always hinting of that, but you’ll never understand a word of what the scriptures are saying until you wake up. Working on myself the last 2-3 years with the help of close family and friends to go along with books like ‘Awareness’ has shifted my perspective and outlook on life in the most positive way. I am told that the Catholic Chuch, under the writings of future Pope Benedict, issued a notification questioning if de Mello went too far in his belief system. After reading this book, I’ve come to realize that not being able to admit that you are wrong is a sign that your ego is running the show.I said to her "My dear, last year over a million people starved in China because of the drought, and you never raised a question".

And this only happens, he insists, by becoming alive to the needs and potential of others, whether at home or in the workplace. A dramatic shift that forces us to focus on the underlying truth that we are out of touch with reality. Most of what I’ve seen of self-help books have anecdotes of current people in current situations for the therapist/psychiatrist to draw off of. Mixing Christian spirituality, Buddhist parables, Hindu breathing exercises, and psychological insight, de Mello’s words of hope come together in Awareness in a grand synthesis.

I am now at a place in my life where I am 100% comfortable in my own skin and have the space to share my happiness with someone, if that’s in the cards. I was an oversensitive teenager who didn't really understand what he meant by "waking up" or "becoming aware.
