However, what it really means is that these mattresses only have the most expensive-to-produce “comfort” layers on one side, dramatically reducing the cost of production. We have not tested what would happen to a relatively thin layer of soft memory foam sat on the bottom a mattress for six months at a time, with up to 200kg of weight on top. But given these mattresses are stored and shipped in compressed form, you’d imagine a memory foam layer would be able to recover from such torture. Should I buy a soft or firm mattress?
