About this deal

Mr. Fox is the main character of Fantastic Mr. Fox. Even though he is a fox, he has many human characteristics, including wearing human clothes. Mr. Fox understands and speaks many different animal languages. He is also incredibly clever, smarter than most of the human characters in the story. Mr. Fox possesses a genius-level intellect. He uses this intellect to steal food from the nasty farmers. He gives this food to his family and the other animals. Mr. Fox, while kind, can be overly confident though, and this leads to the eventual discovery of his home. When the farmers then try to destroy his home, he again thwarts them and escapes. Mrs. Fox

Another interesting thing to note about the farmers is that Bean comes up with their plans every time. Though the farmers each have their own successful farms, Bean is clearly the most clever of the group, and the other farmers allow him to take the lead. Only in one instance, coming in the next section, does Boggis or Bunce make a suggestion that Bean has not already thought of. Roald Dahl was a British novelist, short story writer and screenwriter of Norwegian descent, who rose to prominence in the 1940's with works for both children and adults, and became one of the world's bestselling authors. In these first few chapters, Dahl sets up the world of the story, introduces almost all of the main characters, and begins the conflict. It is interesting to note that Dahl introduces the farmers before Mr. Fox, perhaps so that the reader will already dislike the farmers before they find out that Mr. Fox steals from them, making his stealing more acceptable.

The film had its world premiere as the opening film of the 53rd edition of the London Film Festival on October 14, 2009. [22] 20th Century Fox released it theatrically the following month on November 13. In 2009, it was adapted into a stop-motion animated film by Wes Anderson and included the voice of George Clooney as Mr Fox. The novel was also adapted into a musical in 2016, and an opera in 1998 which in 2019 was recorded by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Odyssey Opera.

In 2012, Mr Fox appeared on a Royal Mail commemorative postage stamp. [1] Two audio readings of the novel were released, one with the author narrating, and another with actor Martin Jarvis narrating. In style and sensibility, this is really a Wes Anderson film, with little Dahl. It's missing the darker elements that characterize Dahl's books. There you find the whiff of something nasty: child abuse, violence, misogyny. Gone, too, is any sense of danger. Even the farmers, who are made to look a touch evil, don't seem capable of it. We never feel the tension of watching the Fox family facing real peril. The film certainly has Americanized Dahl's story, and I don't mean the fact that the good animals have American accents and the baddies have British ones. It offers yet another celebration of difference and a lesson on the importance of being yourself. But it does leave you thinking: isn't it time that children's films put children first? [34] Two human years (12 fox years) later, the Foxes and their son Ash are living in a hole. Mr. Fox, now a newspaper columnist, moves the family into a better home inside a tree, ignoring the warnings of his lawyer Clive Badger about how dangerous the area is for foxes due to its proximity to facilities run by three farmers: Walt Boggis, Nate Bunce, and Frank Bean. After giving his acceptance speech, the audio of the speech was used in a short animation of Anderson's character (Weasel) giving the speech, animated by Payton Curtis, a key stop-motion animator on the film. Badger is another character who lives under the ground. Mr. Fox steals food nightly from one of the three disgusting and gluttonous farmers who have more then they need. The farmers get mad and set out to kill Mr. Fox. They have a hard time catching him, they destroy the earth trying to get him out of his hole, they waste many man-hours by making their workers surround the woods with weapons and ultimately Mr. Fox with the help of other underground animals find another way into the farms and go about their stealing in peace while the farmers sit endlessly waiting to kill the fox and any other animals that pop up from the ground. At the table, Mr Fox invites everyone to live in a secret underground neighbourhood with him and his family, where he will hunt on their behalf daily and where none of them will need to worry about the farmers anymore. Everyone joyfully cheers for this idea, while Boggis, Bunce, and Bean are left waiting in vain for Mr Fox to emerge from his hole.
