About this deal

There are two other irons in the P-Series, the P730, and P7TW - both Tour level blades with the P730s in the bags of some of the best players in the world including Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy. As the name suggests, the P7TW irons were made with heavy involvement from Tiger Woods and helped him to his 15th Major (The Masters, 2019) as well as an 82nd PGA Tour Victory at the Zozo Championship. There are also second-hand TaylorMade iron sets for the game improver with their iron offering. For each driver model, they release an accompanying set of irons. These irons follow the same game improvement footprint, which has been largely unchanged for years - wide sole, low weight, high launch, and strong lofts. Everything in these clubs is geared towards making the game easier and more enjoyable. I decided to leave all my woods in the bag and play from the forward tees with just the irons. I wanted to hit every tee shot with an iron to see if I was imagining things. Maybe the range shots were an anomaly. As for looks, “These are beautifully simple” was my first thought when I saw them in person. The lines are clean and sharp in some areas and smooth and rounded in others. The head, while definitely smaller than what I’m used to, doesn’t feel or look too small. I don’t have any confidence issues looking down at the ball. I know this accounts for the distance gain but the ball definitely comes off hot compared to my set. I was hoping I would hit the M1 better since I like the appearance better, but that was not the case. The M2 definitely felt better for me and I felt more confident with it in my hands.

Direction: The irons want to go straight. I did manage to fade them consistently, but could not turn the ball over to consistently get a high draw that was advertised. I might have been compensating a little in my swing knowing how much more offset these had then what I am used too. I like to work a fade most of the time into greens so that is fine by me. Overall very straight hitting irons, especially 7-AW which were extremely straight for me. They were both a little to big IMO, as I am currently bagging Mizuno MP-68s. The M2 isa definite “game improvement iron”, while the M1 was similar in size and shape to my previous irons, Titleist AP1s.

This high-launch 3-wood was a joy to use. The more lofted 17? version is more like a 4-wood in my book, but with so many driver loft options about, the fairways were always going to follow suit. The new sole design really helped the feel and performance, giving high and consistent flight. This product will fall nicely into a great line-up for TaylorMade in 2012. The entire TW737 iron line is forged from S25C steel using Honma’s proprietary high strength W-Forging, a two-stage forging process that mixes hot and cold forging. According to the company, the process creates more density in the club face, especially high on the face. The extra strength is said to increase ball speed and forgiveness. The Burner line was shelved for over a decade until 2008. By then TaylorMade had discovered and mastered “SuperFast Technology.” This inverted cone behind the face, and multi material construction to deliver today’s players distance iron. Ball flight is very strong (comes off hot). Ball stays high in the air for awhile. Very high and lands soft

I’ve even had some success hitting the long irons, especially off the tee. I was surprised at the distance I was getting, especially with the 4-iron, however, it does have 20 degrees of loft. Does that mean I’ll ditch my 7 wood? Not just yet, because for the most part I hit it really well. However, I’ll keep working with the 4 iron and see where it takes me. Either my golf swing is getting better, or it’s all about the technology, or a little bit of both. Feel: I hit the M2 first, and found it to be very solid when hit on the screws. There was almost no feel off the club face at all. When I mishit it, you knew it was, but it wasn’t harsh at all. Hit the M1 next, and same type of feel when hit solid. Much more harsh when mishit though, but I knew that was coming. The TW737-Vn is made particularly for better golfers who like the shape and workability of a blade, but want a little more forgiveness. My expectation going into launch monitor testing was that I’d see a flatter trajectory, lower peak height, similar distance and spin, and a decent amount of help on mishits. I tested the TW737-Vs on SkyTrak against my TaylorMade RSi 2’s using Bridgestone Tour B330 balls. I rotated clubs every 5 shots and went through multiple rounds with each club.
