Cushioning: While some runners prefer a more minimalist style shoe, others like plenty of cushioning. Consider how much padding you want in a running shoe. Additionally, the engineered air mesh upper provides a secure, comfortable fit and breathes well to prevent your feet from overheating. We had ample space in our tox box, while the rest of the shoe felt snug around our ankles. We didn’t experience any irritation around our soles or toes. It will be fine for use in a gym, but there are better options for cross-training and lifting. As well, the amount of cushioning is not necessary for a treadmill.

Some users find the regular fit to be a bit narrow, but the shoe does come in wide sizes (although color options are limited). The Adrenaline GTS 23 offers a moderate amount of support and a soft, well-cushioned midsole, which makes it a great choice for easy runs and long distance efforts. Plus, the Addiction comes in a variety of width sizes, and it’s deep enough to fit inserts like insoles for flat feet or custom orthotics. Unlike some other stability shoes, the Adrenaline GTS is soft and flexible, meaning our feet bend comfortably inside of them when in motion. They offer a smooth ride and easy transitions. These running shoes felt so lightweight, that we actually felt as if our speed on our daily runs was increased in addition to knee pain being relieved. Our ankles and joints responded well when in motion in these running shoes.

We think adventure lovers will undoubtedly find the Cascadia 16 to be a dependable asset for conquering the trails and one of the best trail running shoes on the market. We usually prefer Brooks Revel 5 for daily runs, gym workouts, crossfit day and on the treadmill. Being a lower-tier, cheaper version, of one of last year’s best shoes is nothing to scoff at. In fact, the Revel can compete with similar shoes to the Ghost, such as the Saucony Ride, Nike Air Zoom Pegasus, and New Balance Vazee Pace.

If that sounds helpful, look for Brooks models with a “GTS” in the name, which stands for “Go-to Support.” Brooks makes GTS versions of many of its shoes, including the Glycerin and Launch. I was personally excited to test this shoe as it is a brand new edition to the Brooks line-up specifically focused on the idea that a running shoe can be fashionable, a quality trainer, and sold at a lower price.The Brooks Revel 5 is a springy trainer, but its energize level is 1/3 in Brooks Energize Level Scale. Brooks Revel vs Adrenaline GTS The stretch woven technology allows immense breathability and the shoes have a very snug fit that prevents slipping and sliding. Even during sessions where we ran up to 10 miles, we didn’t experience any blisters or irritation. We felt supported and secure, especially around the heel while having ample space in the toe box.

ROBBE: People think I’m crazy for saying this, but the Brooks Revel has consistently been one of my favorite Brooks shoes over the last couple years, and I still think it may be my favorite shoe outside of the Aurora-BL. While it largely remains unchanged since the Revel 3 and Revel 4, there are some minor updates to the upper. Honestly, you’re probably not going to notice them, but I’ll still give you my thoughts on one of the best budget trainers out there. The Good While the midsole and upper are home runs, the outsole has a love/hate relationship with some runners. It is composed of a full-length HPR Green rubber outsole with an 8 mm drop for easy landings and speedy toe-offs. Many neutral trainers utilize a blend of rubber with exposed EVA foam to keep the ride lightweight and flexible. MIchael: The midsole is really my only “disappointment” on the Revel 5, and I concede it’s a minor one: the material here - Brooks BioMoGo DNA - is thoroughly average . On the Brooks hierarchy, BioMoGo DNA comes in firmer than DNA LOFT, but softer than DNA AMP (for those experienced Brooks gurus). Of course, at this price point and in this category, that’s all fine - and as I’ll cover in the Ride section, below, it wasn’t ultimately much of a problem - but I was not wow’d by the midsole here in any way. Brooks made necessary changes on the outsole of Revel 5 and include more lug patter for a better grip performance.

Brooks Revel Conclusions

When you step into this shoe, the midsole material feels soft and squishy, almost like gel cushioning. However, when you start to run, this material starts to firm up to provide an energetic and responsive ride. Down to the molecular level, this midsole material performs like tiny trampolines under your feet and adapts to your unique gait cycle. Brooks organizes its road shoes into three categories: “Cushion,” “Energize,” and “Speed.” (The brand’s trail shoes technically fall into their own separate category, but they use the same midsole foams as the “Cushion” and “Energize” shoes.) Although it is the same flat knit mesh engineering, the updated Fit Knit offers a better secure and distraction-free fit. The BioMoGo DNA is a softer material than the DNA AMP foam which has been used in Brooks Levitate. Therefore, the Revel 5 offers less energy return compared to the Levitate. Upper Unit Review
