About this deal

Lesbian, gay and transgender (LGBTQ+) patients face inequalities in their experience of NHS healthcare. A 2018 Stonewall survey estimates that one in five LGBTQ+ people are not out to any healthcare professional when seeking general medical care, and one in seven LGBTQ+ people have avoided treatment for fear of discrimination. More than 3,000 staff at Guy’s and St Thomas’ are wearing NHS rainbow badges to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) patients. Before, during, and after the Nazi regime, men accused of homosexuality were prosecuted under Paragraph 175 of the German criminal code. This statute criminalized sexual relations between men. It did not apply to sexual relations between women. Nonetheless, beginning in 1933, the Nazi regime harassed and destroyed lesbian communities and networks that had developed during the Weimar Republic (1918–1933). This created a climate of restriction and fear for many lesbians.

a b c d Yuko, Elizabeth (March 13, 2023). "The Meaning Behind 32 LGBTQ Pride Flags". Reader's Digest. Archived from the original on May 17, 2023 . Retrieved April 22, 2023. This past year, you’d be forgiven for thinking LGBTQ+ rights have had some huge step forward. There have been rainbow Pride flags literally everywhere – flying from people’s houses, posters in shop windows and on busses, and even printed on badges and lanyards. But the whole of the UK hasn’t suddenly become huge allies – no, the rainbow has been adopted as what feels like the official “thank you NHS” symbol. Pride Flags". Rainbow Directory. The Pride rainbow being used for different reasons isn’t a new thing: Rainbow-washing happens every year, and it’s often seen in Pride Month in June when companies throw the flag onto their logo or a product – calling themselves “allies”, but remaining silent on LGBTQ+ issues which the flag represents.

The white knot was created by Frank Voci in November 2008, in response to the passage of Proposition 8 in California and bans on same-sex marriage and denial of other civil rights for LGBT persons across the nation.
