About this deal

Our motorcycle batteries need to be charged to full voltage potential (14.2–14.5 volts for AGM’s and 14.0–15.0 volts for lead/acid batteries). And this, I feel, is the reason why our batteries don’t last as long as they use to when chargers use to fully and completely charge a battery. in rod segments and a sledgehammer (to drive in a new one), plus a bit of sanding on the grounding strap & some dielectric grease, and the problem is normally resolved for another decade-plus. And I had to keep the manual near the charger so I could keep referring to it to interpret what was happening to the battery. The device comes with a range of accessories, including a weatherproof battery lead, a standard battery clip set, and a 12V accessory plug. The lead can be left permanently attached to the battery for easy charging access. The charger also features a sealed enclosure that protects it from water and dust, making it ideal for outdoor use.

The charger also has a unique feature that allows it to automatically diagnose the battery's condition and adjust the charging process accordingly. This feature can help extend the life of the battery and avoid damaging it due to overcharging or undercharging. I evaluated and reviewed the Optimate 3 only a few months ago in the warm and fondly remembered month of August (2008). If one wants to maximize battery life, the cycling that Yuasa does is very desirable. Let’s think about this, too: Of all of the manufacturers selling battery maintainers, how many of them actually design, produce, and sell lines of batteries? I count one: Yuasa. IDEAL FOR: AGM, GEL & STD 12V batteries from 4 – 60Ah & Lithium (LiFePO4) 12.8/13.2V batteries from 2 – 15AhSwitch between STANDARD or CAN-BUS program with a simple procedure: connect clamps together, connect to mains, wait for the LED’s to confirm program change, disconnect clamps. LED indication confirms the CAN-BUS program is active. Once selected, the chosen program is saved as the default mode for next use, but you can switch programs as many times as you want. The OptiMate 4 BMW CAN-bus model is delivered preset in CAN-bus mode. The Tecmate Optimate 4 Dual Program is a battery charger designed for a range of 12V lead-acid batteries. The device can be used to maintain and charge all types of batteries, including AGM, GEL, and STD. The charger comes with two separate programs, one for direct charging and the other for maintenance. This ensures that the battery remains in top condition at all times.

My BMW R1100S has an SAE lead already connected to the battery. Does this model come supplied with an SAE lead to connect it directly to the bike? Thanks December 5, 2018 Suitable for all types of rechargeable 12V lead-acid batteries: filler cap types; absorbed glass mat (AGM or "MF"); valve regulated (VRLA); GEL-electrolyte. As simple as 1-2-3: Just connect OptiMate 4 to your battery, the rest is automatic. Electronically protected against user errors. There is no switch, no fuse and there are no sparks. If you can get the 3 at a better price then go for it, the only substantial difference is the new '4' is suitable for newer bikes that run a CanBus system. So, unless a brand new bike (particularly a BMW) is in your sights theres no point. and even if there is, you can still use the '3' by simply connecting the lead direct to the battery. I have a '3' and I wouldnt bother chopping it in if I were to buy a brand new bike. In the “test” and “maintain” period, the battery is essentially given a report card. If the battery is going to be a keeper, the #5 green LED will flash and eventually go steady. If it’s sketchy, the yellow #6 LED may alternate with the #7 LED.

The automatic multi stage program engages as soon as the OptiMate is connected to a 12V battery that has at least 2V. Your Ducati uses the CAN-bus system, and so you require the Optimate 4 Dual battery charger, set to CAN-busmode.Considering that the Optimate 4 appears well designed and is priced within range of competitive brands, we think it’s worth considering. It should at least do what other smart chargers also claim to be able to do, if not also a few things more. I’m currently using the Deltran BatteryTender Waterproof 800 (have for about 3-1/2 years with no issues), but would prefer to move to the optimate-4 if (and only if) is a waterproof unit. Personally, the only motorcycle battery charger features I’m really interested in are its ability to keep a maintenance charge and last for years while doing it, because I never let my batteries run down to the point where they need to be raised from the dead anyway. Good morning, I have a 2017 HD Iron 883. It has a purpose fitted battery charger lead. Does the Optimate 3 come with a lead that will connectdirectly?

I hope that you find the article helpful. It the best comparison of motorcycle battery chargers that I’ve yet seen, though I’d love to see an update to it.And this is to charge a battery to its full potential; not 80% or 90% as this leads to short battery life and pre-mature dead batteries. Is the optimate 3 ok to use on a Harley 2002 FXSTB night train and if it has a can bus system would an optimate 3 cause any damage.
