About this deal

Griffiths, Rosalind (22 November 2012). "Cleeves' new BBC drama gets premiere screening at Mareel". The Shetland Times . Retrieved 1 July 2014. When a young man disappears on a ferry crossing and a small boy ends up in intensive care after overdosing on Ecstasy, Pérez and the team become convinced the two events are connected. Her last Shetland book Wild Fire was published in September 2018. Ann has a long association with Shetland and confesses to being in love with the place. British Academy Scotland Awards: Winners in 2016". www.bafta.org. 3 October 2016 . Retrieved 9 July 2018.

Craig, David (7 April 2023). "Shetland adds Downton Abbey, Holby City and Outlander stars to new cast". Radio Times . Retrieved 23 April 2023. In this special time of the year however when night blurs into days and nothing is quite as it seems and with the detective caught up in his relationship with Fran Hunter, his judgement might just be clouded. Will the detective think clearly enough to uncover the truth or will his relationship be what comes between him and his work? Henshall won the 2016 BAFTA Scotland award for best actor and the series received the award for Best TV Drama. [1] However, Calder’s hostility to Shetland will challenge Tosh’s view of her adopted home, and their journey into the darker recesses of Shetland's past and present will test this fragile new partnership. This award winning introductory ushers us into the second instalment through 2008’s White Night where the mystery goes on. The story is set in midsummer when the sun never sets, birds sing at midnight and the white night rules. At the Herring House which is a gallery on the beach, Artist Bella Sinclair throws an intricate party to instigate a presentation of her work.I watch the TV show like any other viewer. Sometimes I'm shown the scripts or the DVDs in advance and I love going along to the read-throughs to meet the stars and the guest actors, but really I like coming fresh to the finished drama. The books and the shows are very different formats. I've been very fortunate though. The writers and directors and the actors have captured the essence of the books and the characters, even though they change the details of plot. The story that I loved most was one of the original stories, not an adaptation of the novels. It was series three, the first six-parter. It explores the sexual assault of one of the main characters, and is very sensitively written by Gaby Chiappe and beautifully acted by Dougie Henshall and Alison O'Donnell. A glorious book! Incredible photos, and text lovingly written by a "smoothmoother" (soothmoother = Shetland for incomer), the main Shetland islands are presented through all the seasons (and the author explains that she wrote the Shetland series of books based on the seasons, thoughtfully done), as well as some of her ideas that became plots for the books. This is a coffee table book, but also a very personal look at the diversity and beauty of the islands. Tosh survives the blast but is reluctant to talk to anyone about what happened. The caravan's owner says he rented it to Connor. Pérez believes Connor killed Bryd and issues a warrant for his arrest. Visiting bomb expert DI Brookes thinks Connor had the knowledge to construct the bomb and might have links to a terrorist group. After talking with Danny, Pérez realizes that environmental activism was a theme of everything Connor did. Connor is found dead on the beach. At first it appears he threw himself from the cliff, but the autopsy finds he was tortured before being murdered the same way Bryd was. It appears like someone is trying to suggest that Connor killed Bryd and then himself. Abbie is suspicious of Martin and searches his room with help from her friend Clana, discovering a hidden camera card. Pérez and Tosh find the place – an abandoned church – where Connor and Bryd were held and killed. Sandy finds that Lloyd went to the same school as Rodgers under a different name. When Brookes gives Tosh a coat button that she'd lost in the explosion, she finally breaks down, calls Donnie and asks him to bring her home.

With such a low population area (roughly 20,000 people), it does get a bit ridiculous to have TOO many murders. Even Midsomer (of Midsomer Murders) is a county made up of many villages and larger towns. That's a bit part of why the TV series often ventures to other areas. Her relationship with the archipelago began in 1975, when she took a job as assistant cook at the Fair Isle bird observatory. On Fair Isle Ann met her late husband Tim, a visiting ornithologist, and it was on a return trip that a single stark image provided inspiration for her first Shetland novel. The broadcast of Episode 6 was delayed due to coverage of an FA Cup replay being broadcast. In contrast to Season 2 (three 2-part episodes), Season 3 is one 6-part story. Summer is marked by nearly 19 hours of sun at mid-June with cold nights and fog. Fall rounds out the year and with few trees falling leaves are not a factor. What is apparent is the degree to which the author has become involved in the life of the isles. On 2 December 2019, BBC One announced that two further series were intended for 2020 and 2021 with Henshall and O’Donnell returning in their roles. [4] Production had to be postponed due to COVID-19. Series 6 broadcast began on 20 October 2021 and series 7 on 10 August 2022. Surrounded by people he doesn’t know and in unfamiliar territory, Jimmy finds himself out of his depth. Then there’s another death and, as the spring weather shrouds the island in claustrophobic mists, Jimmy must dig up old secrets to stop a new killer from striking again…
