About this deal

Always-on Display: When the screen is illuminated, it displays system content. When the screen is in standby mode, it displays the time. This function requires users to manually set "Always-on Display". The user can switch on or off this feature through the watch or Zepp App. There are three buttons, two on either side of the crown, which you can use to navigate menus. I found the navigation system a tad confusing, with the digital crown used to progress through menus, while on the Apple Watch, it’s the home button. That took a lot of getting used to. You can view notifications from native and third-party apps with little issue. There are two smart assistants on board here with an offline one that gives you hands-free control of key watch settings. Due to the device's storage limit, only a maximum of 20 membership cards can be added to the same account. Supported codes include Code 128, Code 39, UPC A, EAN 13, and EAN 8 and QR codes. We’d say that with regular use of features like GPS and all of the advanced health monitoring features on offer, the Pro is good for a week with the capacity to go longer. It’s reminiscent of the level of battery performance you get from something like the Huawei Watch GT Runner.

There’s another AI feature here called Aura, which is another subscription service that offers relaxation, medication, and sleep sounds. It also uses your real-time heart rate to use AI to adapt the soundscapes to your level of relaxation and see you off to sleep. The Cheetah Square is certainly thin and light – tipping the scales at just 25g, and measures 9.9mm. That’s 22% lighter than the standard Cheetah, and it’s super light on the wrist. We also found both the touchscreen and the buttons (which include a rotating bevel, oddly similar to much of the Coros line) to be slightly inconsistent—functioning most of the time, but not always. And after only a few ocean swims (with the recommended fresh water flushing), we had some rough play in the rotating bevel, though it still worked. As mentioned above, there is an absolute embarrassment of riches when it comes to functions, and while we’ll get into a few that are missing below, it’s tough to find something on your smartwatch wishlist that isn’t already built into the Cheetah Pro. Tri-important functions like open-water swim, triathlon mode, and multisport mode all work well enough for 95% of triathlete’s needs, and we found each customizable (enough) to present the data fields you’d want for most training or racing applications. The Zepp Coach is a lot like we’ve seen from Garmin and Huawei where you can build a plan for a particular distance or race you want to train for and after a few questions to shape that training will build you a plan you can sync and follow on the watch. It feels a part of the same family as the Amazfit GTS 4, but also the Bip 5, which isn’t a huge statement of quality. Overall, I found that Amazfit overestimated my training load compared to Garmin, but this is in part because of a shorter sample load of data and because I started running with it when I was "overtraining" according to Garmin, making me look less fit to Zepp's algorithms. But rewinding even further, some history first: Amazfit is a Chinese brand established in 2015 with very very limited presence in North America. Most of their smartwatches are a little more “lifestyle” focused. Think: cheaper Fitbit.

When you reach 3,000+ meters, the watch will prompt you to take the blood-oxygen saturation test when you ascend over 400 meters within 24 hours; when you reach 4,000+ meters, it will prompt you to take the test when you ascend over 400 meters within 6 hours. Something we did experience with the Cheetah Pro echoes our experiences with the Cheetah Square where it would regularly display on the watch that the A-GPS file was out of date. It doesn’t have the brightest AMOLED by any means, and the 1.75-inch, 390x450 screen can be a little hard to read in direct sunlight, and text on the interface can be pretty small. Battery Saver Mode: Limited functions are available; health monitoring functions such as heart rate, blood-oxygen and stress monitoring are turned off, and only basic sleep monitoring is enabled; Bluetooth connection is limited to BLE, raising the wrist to light up the screen is turned off. To see the full list of 15 countries/regions and 14 languages supported, as well as how to activate and use Alexa on your Amazfit Cheetah, please visit support.amazfit.com.First is Zepp Coach, which analyses your fitness goals and prescribes workout sessions. You can choose the days you’d like to workout, and the type of fitness you’re looking to achieve, and it will suggest the type of session.

The AMOLED display is nearly as large as you get from the 47mm Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, while the weight is closer to what you'd expect from a 1.2-inch watch. That's partially because Amazfit used a nylon strap instead of silicone, but it's still appreciated. Plus, the display matches the industry-standard 330 pixels per inch and is surrounded by a sleek titanium bezel, which masks the fiber-reinforced plastic beneath. I'm waiting (im)patiently for more smartwatch brands to add data on training load and recovery, along with suggested workouts based on your fitness. Amazfit is one of the few that does, and it now has something called Zepp Coach AI to suggest workouts based on your current fitness level. Accuracy GPS Mode: Turn on heart rate monitoring and GPS movement (dual-frequency, all satellites).

Basics

The plans are at least well designed and the sessions weren’t out of the ordinary of other plans we’ve followed in the past and are well built for those new to running or training for their first race. When those maps are on, they’re certainly not the richly detailed maps you’ll find on watches like the Garmin Epix or even third-party Apple Watch apps, but it does offer you a little more detail to survey surroundings and get a better sensor of what’s around you. Ultimately, there’s something very likable about the Cheetah Pro. It’s good to see Amazfit hasn’t entirely tried to copy what the competition is doing and the result is a watch that looks good, feels comfortable to wear for long periods and doesn’t feel like you’re getting short-changed overall in the design department. Battery life

The first thing to note is that the Zepp Coach and Coach AI are not connected singing from the same sheet, so the AI has no idea what’s in your session. So if you ask it to design you a session it will a) be different to Zepp Coach and b) will ask you to confirm your fitness levels and personal goals all over again. There’s also Alexa on the wrist. Despite being an Alexa household, I’ve never had cause to want to use it on a smartwatch – but it’s on board here if you like that kind of thing. However, we had issues getting Alexa to connect. As such, their limited traction in the U.S., coupled with limited interest in endurance sports—especially triathlon, with open-water swim/tri/multisport/etc. features—means it probably isn’t on a lot of triathletes’ radars. But with the release of the mostly capable Cheetah Pro, Amazfit is worth another look (with a few caveats, below). I just miss how Garmin makes your fitness data much more readily available. You're not just blindly following its AI-suggested workouts; you can go into your Training Status widget and see if your Load Focus is properly balanced or is deficient in certain areas, which determines where you should focus next. Indoor positioning services are not supported. Positioning speed and accuracy may be affected by the surrounding environment. The number of satellites connected to simultaneously, and specific satellite connections, may depend on your location. You’re getting a 47mm polymer case with a pretty showy titanium alloy bezel on top, surrounding a nice-sized and good quality 1.45-inch, 480 x 480 AMOLED touchscreen display.
