About this deal

Dracothion’s Tail, the most zealous and better prepared to enact the Great Plan. You can set up a unit in reserve for each one deployed and summon it at the end of your movement. The Saurus Knights represent the cavalry of the Seraphon but their movement is not the highest of the warband (only 6”) placing them in the elite range with Toughness 4, high wounds and good damage output. To round out the trifecta, Skinks get three artifacts, one of which buffs their save by 1 and their damage output, whereas another buffs their movement and grants them -1 to be hit.

Note that is the only limitation, so you want to avoid being charged? Move that nice Saurus Knight straight in front of you to force the enemy to engage him first, or even better, you can straight up engage an enemy with this ability as there’s no requirement of the teletransported unit to be farther from an enemy model.

Contents

Seraphon’s history is older than the Mortal Realms and hidden in the fog of time. An entire race created by the mysterious Old Ones, great beings whose existence was entirely devoted to fight the Chaos Gods, which continues its purpose even long after its creators disappeared. Some of the only survivors of the World-That-Was aside from the gods themselves, the Seraphon are a race of lizard-like creatures, refugees of the Old World who fled aboard starships, before finding themselves in the realms we know today. Guided by the remnants of a Great Plan left behind by a mysterious race of omnipotent beings known as the Old Ones, the Seraphon seek one thing: The total defeat of Chaos. They will do anything to achieve that end, resulting in a cold, predatory ruthlessness that regularly results in conflict with their own Sigmarite allies as often as it does the forces of Chaos. The skink priesthood are the devoted attendants of the Slann Starmasters, interpreting their croaked pronouncements into prophecy and plans of action, while making certain the temple-cities continue to operate. Starseers are the most powerful skink wizards, second only to their slann superiors, and they read the heavens during battle to predict the future and bestow blessings upon their allies. Saurus Scar-Veteran on Aggradon Neither function as garrisons anymore, and in fact are now Impassable. Hurts for units of blowdart skinks, but frequently you wanted to hide stuff behind it rather than in it. Conclusion

Liam: Rounding out the trio of kits I built for this, there’s the Skink Starseer on his tiny little version of the Slann’s palanquin. The most surprising thing here is that there are two completely different Skinks you can build – one seated and contemplating his iPhone, and another stood up and casting. They’re completely separate and you could plausibly build a second Skink Priest out of whichever you don’t use (probably easier with the standing one). Using the above example, both versions of the battalion use 1 Scar-Veteran and 3 Sauron Knights but if you’re Coalesced the bonus is +3 to run and charge rolls for Knights within 18” of the Scar-Veteran, and Starborne get an additional mortal wound on a 6 with Celestite Weapons.Appearance-wise, this means that the basic Krox have slightly dopier, less bestial heads, while the Warspawned have longer and more crocodilian snouts meant to make them look like they mean business. There’s a couple of other build differences in there too, but it’s heads (and weapons) which make the definitive difference. Contents: 1 Auric Runefather/Runemaster/Runeson on Magmadroth (Hero, Behemoth), 1 Auric Runesmiter, and 10 x Vulkite Berzerkers (Batteline)

With the third edition battletome came also a range refresh that introduced new warscrolls, replaced some older sculpts but also permanently retired others: Michael O: I knew I had to build the Warspawned version because the Seraphon army I’m working on is my 11 year old son’s army. He is definitely all-in on the WARSPAWNED versus just regular ole’ Kroxigor. I don’t want to go too far into dad-mode here but it was pretty funny the first weekend after we bought the new Battletome – he had read it and claimed that ‘all my stuff got better rend, all of it!’.The Coalesced have a number of traits that are all over the place but come together (you could say they coalesce) into a pretty nasty whole. Important bit of context here moving forward, remember how I said the lore had shifted to say Seraphon were not star dreams anymore? This is now reflected in the rules by removing the DAEMON keyword and adjusting their leadership accordingly. Units have leadership all over the place. Saurus have a respectable 8, while Skinks can go as low as 5. Coalesced cannot have their bravery modified, positively or negatively, so this isn’t so bad for Saurus but if you wanna run a lot of Skinks this is a problem. That said, one of the common sub themes of this book is the ability to generate extra command points, as many support heroes now generate an additional one each turn on a 4+/5+ dice roll, meaning you can offset this limitation somewhat using the auto-pass morale command ability. Buying 4 of this box isn’t out of the question. This is in the top 2 of repeatable boxes to buy and it ain’t 2. Both varieties of Saurus Warrior have benefited from untold millennia of breeding and refinement, operating in near-perfect unison with their spawn-kin. All the units can be used in a Legion of Nagash and Soulblight army too, but if you run the Hexwraiths as Hexwraiths you have 2 Battleline units for a Nighthaunt army but no Hero to lead them and a spare Behemoth as none of the 3 builds have the Nighthaunt keyword. All other build combinations will fit into Legions of Nagash just fine though. a solid box for someone who likes to convert, but tough to use in these modern times.

There’s only a couple of optional bits here, in the form of a set of three different heads – feral snarling Saurus, calm Saurus, mask Saurus – and a spear or a club for a weapon. Personally I went for the spear and the mask. Battleline in Koatl’s Claw. Big beautiful new models that are awakening things in players across the world, both flavours of Kroxigor are similar enough in warscroll and in disappointment. 4 wounds, 4+ save and movement 5” are all OK stats for big models but both just lag behind similar warscrolls in terms of damage output for cost. On the Saurus front you got 2 units worth looking at closely. A unit of Saurus Guard are almost always taken. Even if minimum size it’s10 ablative wounds to keep your Slann alive. Your opponent will gun for your Slann if they can do so and anything to keep them alive longer is important. Just keep them surrounded. Saurus Knights are the other useful unit. Like most Cavalry they occupy a role of trying to grab objectives that your opponent neglects and leaves open. They’re pretty pokey but if given Fly they can do the job and even if there isn’t a good opening, they’re cheap enough that they can make a sacrificial lamb for keeping your Skinks and Wizards away from danger. Saurus Warriors arent great but on the cheaper side and a horde can do some damage if properly buffed up in Koatl’s Claw. This set builds either five javelin-throwing Raptadon Hunters or lance-wielding Raptadon Chargers, two units who have natural synergy on the battlefield. Saurus Warriors To summarize you have many tactics available and you can decide to have a mixture of them or go all-in with just a subset of Saurus or Skinks. The Seraphon are a vengeful race created in another era by ancient beings called only “the Old Ones” for the purpose of maintaining balance in the mortal realms fighting the chaotic powers. Neither Saurus nor Skink: for those undecided a Slann Starmaster, 1 Kroxigor,3 Salamander and 1 Razordon. You could swap 2 Salamanders for a Kroxigor and a Skink Handler. How to buy a Seraphon Warcry Warband Characteristic wise they all have Movement 4″ (except the one on Cold One that is Mounted and can travel up to 7″), high wounds and Toughness 5 (the Warden only 4). What I can say is how fun it looks to me personally. I think the book does look powerful, the Seraphon have the benefit of access to a very wide range of units, thanks to their legacy from Warhammer Fantasy Battles, and many are powerful on their own. You can then buff them to absurd levels on top of that. The army grants a lot of flexibility in playstyle, from Saurus hordes to sneaky Skinks to Oops, All Dinosaurs! Lists. While I think the Coalesced will probably see more playtime, Games Workshop made the right call by preserving the old playstyle for those who wanted it while also introducing something different.
