About this deal

The code breaker has up to 12 attempts to break the code and each time they are told (using other coloured pegs) whether they have any pegs of the right colour in the correct position, or just how many pegs they have placed are the right colour but in the wrong position. I’m pretty sure that most people my age played games in maths lessons at school that involved making pictures from some basic shapes. Either plastic ones if your school had a bit of money, or cut from paper or card if your school had a stretched budget. That’s basically what Superpuzzle from Spear’s Games is. However it was not just the kids that loved playing Slap Ninja. My husband couldn’t wait to get his hands on the game to prove himself as the Master Ninja. If they kids enjoyed zapping each other they definatley loved zapping Daddy more. Playing pieces can only move forwards, staying in their lanes, and how many spaces they can move is dictated by the roll of the die. If you land on a square occupied by an other piece then you say “Home you go!” and that players piece has to return to its starting square. You are able to move over and past opponent’s pieces if you throw enough to do so. Now the aim of the game is to take either three squares in a row (horizontal, vertical or diagonal) or a total of five squares. To win a square you have to either have three pegs in a row, or a total of five pegs. To be able to place a peg in a hole you have to roll the dice. If you roll a number from 3 to 6 or 8 to 11 you can either place your peg in a hole with that number, or in any hole other than the central one of the square with that number.

All these instructions seem a bit confusing on first read, but once you start playing it’s actually really easy to know what you’re doing. Master C has had a bit of a thing for playing noughts and crosses recently. He’s realised that with a bit of logic you can make it impossible for the other player to win. He likes winning. Rather a lot. As a responsible parent I realise that it’s my duty to make sure he understands that in life it’s not all about the winning. Nor is it possible to always win. That’s where finding a copy of the vintage 1978 game Super 3 comes in rather useful. Super 3 is actually a fantastic game to play one on one with a child. It worked brilliantly for my 6 year old son. Complicated enough that he didn’t get bored, but not so complicated that he found it hard and gave up. It requires a bit of strategic though and to understand the rules about when you can place a peg where, but it’s a brilliant game for practicing adding up the totals on two dice too. The game contains two sets of twenty four pieces (one set red and one green) with each set having 12 each of two different shapes – a rectangle, and what could be described as a rectangle with a corner cut off! Firstly, it’s worth pointing out the Master Mind the game has absolutely nothing at all to do with the television programme. Nothing at all. Childhood is gone in the blink of an eye [except the sleepless nights part, that lasts for decades I think] and I wanted to enjoy every moment I could and make it as fun as possible. Moose adored playing this game. It takes no set up, it’s small enough to take in the car and there are no small parts to lose. He has challenged every member of the household and has so far held his position as ninja master.

Items that are not available in store will take 3-5 working days (excluding weekends and bank holidays) to be delivered to your nominated store. Once you have enough pegs to take a square you remove your opponent’s pegs from that square and fill it all in with your own pegs. Once this is done that square can not be touched again, even if your opponent rolls a 2. Once opened the box contained an instruction leaflet and the Slap Ninja game. The game requires three AAA batteries which come included. What Age is Slap Ninja For? The idea is simple. Two players sit across from each other. One is the ninja student and the other the master. The student has to try to sneak past the ninja master to press the coin held in the ninja’s left hand. Each time they manage to do so they score a point. The game itself had a bit of an air of mystery about it. The box cover featured a seated business man and a woman of Chinese appearance stood behind him. The game itself is nowhere in sight. How peculiar.

What’s it like to play

Following on from the success of original Master Mind, deluxe Master Mind extends the game so that there are now five holes and eight colours. This means up to 32,000 permutations. Yikes. I can also see the pair of them taking time to master their ninja skills so that they can take on new ninja students and try to defeat them. We also kept things easy for our first attempt by having the house rule that you couldn’t have repeated colours in your code. Obviously this makes things a little easier. What’s it like to play
