About this deal

I thought it was pretty decent. But, I'm hesitant to say it's a must buy. I think modern readers without a taste for the older stuff would like this better than the original material. But, will still find it a bit old fashioned. Alan Moore and Alan Davis did some weird stuff, but it was very good material. It is best to say that they kept the story consistent and the history of Cap was well drawn and connected all the dots beautifully. Thankfully, Marvel has made all of this so much easier to collect and read with an expanded version of the Captain Britain omnibus, released in 2022. This includes absolutely everything that’s collected roughshod in all of those other books I mentioned earlier (with one exception, which I’ll talk about in the next section). Has it ever been explained why Maggie talks like an adult in a childs body? Or if she has any powers? Her adult-level intelligence is her power, I think?

Sep 22, 2020Yeah I remember seeing at least one issue of Marvel Super-Heroes in the US series, now it doesn't seem to be available at all? The designation of the publisher's primary continuity as Earth-616 originated in Dave Thorpe, Alan Davis and Alan Moore's Marvel UK Captain Britain stories. The strip also established the multiversal Captain Britain Corps, members of which act as the champions of their own respective versions of the British Isles, which act as a nexus point between dimensions via Otherworld. [3] Creation [ edit ] The 'sequel' by Jamie Delano is engaging until it falls prey to delving into the character of Meggan (for which I have never held an affinity). Once Friedrich finished up in #36 is coasts a little, whilst the CB strip was absorbed into the Super Spider-Man comic (becoming Super Spider-Man and Captain Britain #231 after CB #39) before taking a turn for the boring when Stan's brother Larry takes up the writing. Buscema is long gone on art by this point and it's no big surprise and somewhat of a relief when it ends in #242. Captain Britain (vol. 2) #1 (January 1985) - Jamie Delano (writer), Alan Davis (artist), Ian Rimmer (editor)

Except Hawkeye, both OHC and Omnibus were subst..." Getting through those later issue was a real chore so it was nice to get to the two part Marvel Team-Up issues by Claremont and Bryne. Beautiful crisp John Byrne artwork, and in full colour again! This is Captain Britain in New York coming into conflict, then teaming-up (as is the way) with Spider-Man, against the villain Arcade (in his debut appearance), who would go on to bother the X-men many times over the years. It's a fun story.

Captain Britain Omnibus covers and contents revealed

Died years before the Cross-Time Caper during which his costume was handed over to Earth-616's Captain Britain. Moore bridges the early contradictions by making Captain Britain a determined fighter against fascism and intolerance while retaining his link to Albion. Grant Morrison subverted this with a prose horror story about Captain Gran Bretan (1986) where the magic is malign. That lasts for 14 issues, and the series pretty much wraps up here. The post-Moore stories aren’t as tightly woven as Moore’s run, but they’re still well worth reading. Mighty World of Marvel #14 introduces Meggan, who Excalibur readers are surely familiar with, and I found issue #4 of Captain Britain (titled “Sid’s Story”) to be a personal highlight of the latter portion of the series. So, this book is like a snapshot of a culture when it was still possible to be anti-facist, patriotic and good, a self-questioning fighter against intolerance, all at the same time, before cultures started to divide. He is still in the top 100 in terms of aesthetic appreciation but not popularity. Following the sale of Marvel UK to Panini in 1995, the character turned up in several new stories in both Marvel Heroes and Spectacular Spider-Man Vol 1, which are not regarded as a part of official Marve continuity. One of these was, however, later reprinted in the US as Marvel Milestones: Captain Britain Vol 1 1.Alan Moore is an English writer most famous for his influential work in comics, including the acclaimed graphic novels Watchmen, V for Vendetta and From Hell. He has also written a novel, Voice of the Fire, and performs "workings" (one-off performance art/spoken word pieces) with The Moon and Serpent Grand Egyptian Theatre of Marvels, some of which have been released on CD.

Lew Stringer has shared the covers for the Captain Britain Omnibus, coming in October, plus a list of the comics it reprints. Most of the articles coming out list it as a mini but apparently AIPT confirmed it's an ongoing (thanks for the link, H-E-D). Also a member of Calibur alongside that dimension's versions of Spider-Girl, Iron Fist, Hulk and Dr. Strange. She was sometimes known as Captain Saxonia.
