About this deal

The most popular Japanese single malt in the world was also the first. Yamazaki 12 is primarily made up of whisky aged in American oak and ex-bourbon casks, with trace amounts of whisky coming from Olorosso or Mizunara casks. For Westerners, this lends it a slightly more familiar flavor — at least initially. What follows are the rich, standard markers for Japanese whisky: delicate fruit, light spice and a long, sherry-driven finish. On the nose, ripe green apple, sage and licorice abound. It’s bright and ever-so-slightly spicy. It’s undoubtedly smoky, but in a comparatively subtle way: it’s not a massive smoke bomb, nor does it hide the peat away. It actually reminds me a bit of tarte flambée, thanks to its funky, meaty and sweet notes.

Hakushu Bottler Distillery Bottling Bottling serie Single Malt Whisky Stated Age 18 years old Strength 43.0 % Vol. Size 700 ml Label 白州 Barcode 4901777228900 Added on 08 nov 2014 6:33 pm by RL_whisky In 1929, Torii hired Masataka Taketsuru to create the world’s first Japanese whisky. They got it wrong. The expression, called Suntory Shirofuda, tasted too much like Scotch — too peaty, too powerful. Torii realized the Japanese palate didn’t want ultra-smokey peat bombs; it wanted finesse. So they made what has since become the most popular whisky Japan: Suntory Kakubin. It’s light, punchy and floral, the baseline for all Japanese whiskies to come. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. It’s exclusively aged in mizunara, also known as Japanese oak. One of the rarest and most expensive types of oak in the world, mizunara poses both challenges and rewards for whisky makers. It has a much higher moisture content yet is more porous than other types of oak. It doesn’t grow straight and takes an exceptionally long time to mature. It also imparts overly intense woody flavours in the early stages of maturation. The Service has been prepared by us solely for information purposes to Members and the Service is based on information we consider reliable and we obtain the contents of the Service from a number of different third party sources (including Contributions), but we do not endorse, support, represent, warrant or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of the Services and any information therein.

Hakushu Limited Edition 18 Year Old Single Malt Whisky The Hakushu Limited Edition 18 Year Old Single Malt Whisky

Each Hibiki expression is a blend of dozens of whiskies produced at all three of Suntory’s whiskey-making facilities and, as with each Suntory whisky brand, may contain spirit aged in new American oak barrels, Spanish Olorosso sherry casks, ex-bourbon barrels, ex-wine casks and the legendary (not to mention extraordinarily expensive) Japanese Mizunara oak barrel. The history of the Japanese whisky is not even a century old, but in this short time, the Japanese blended and single malts have taken over the world by storm and can easily go against their whisk(e)y counterparts from across the globe. Surrounded by lush nature, the distillery benefits from abundant water filtered through the granite layers fed by the Ojira and Jingu rivers, and a humid microclimate with four distinct seasons favoring the aging of whiskies. This expression is the exact same base spirit as 12, just six years older. It’s also three- to five-times the price. The 18-year-old channels the 12-year-old bottle’s freshness, and goes deeper. It’s fresh herbal notes become dried herbal notes and the citrus is replaced with a big, ripe sweetness. The peat is still there, but shows up more on first tasting than it does near the end of a glass. Anniversary Limited Edition. The Hakushu 12 Single Malt is made up of carefully selected malt whiskies all aged for a minimum of 12 years in various casks, created in honor of Suntory Whisky's centenary. Nestled deep in Mt. Not overly complex, but he brings what he brings on a high level. The nose I think is wonderful, reminds me of the football field of my youth. I may have been influenced by my decision, but not only for me was the best of the tasted Japanese (besides Hakushu 18 also Hibiki 17 and Yamazaki 18) Regardless of whether the Service offers the functionality to contribute, you are solely responsible and liable for any content and information that you create, upload, post, publish, link to, duplicate, transmit, record, display or otherwise make available on the Service or to other Members, such as chat messages, text messages, videos, audio, audio recordings, music, pictures, photographs, text and any other information or materials, whether publicly posted or privately transmitted (“Contributions”).
