About this deal

The Kuru Toga is ideal for those who want to use lighter strokes and do not require features like the lead protection mechanism. It is also perfect when you only want to focus on the writing or drawing part rather than for other creative purposes. At this point your pencil should be fixed and ready to go. FAQs Can I use a piece of lead to unjam a pencil? The Uni Kuru Toga is one of the most popular mechanical pencils available today and comes in several variants, such as the regular variant, the Roulette, the Advance, etc. And each variant has certain features that distinguish it from others.

The Zebra Delguard mechanical pencil has a unique design in which its internal parts help keep the lead protected at all times. Since this prevents the lead from breaking inside the pencil, the chances of small lead pieces lying within the pencil are minimized. There's a replaceable eraser under the push-button. Supplied fitted with HB Uni Nano Dia lead - which are another innovation - being stronger than any previous lead due to some clever nano-technology. Lead cushioning: Some mechanical pencils use a lead cushion or guard that reinforces the lead against rougher writing styles. If you’re aggressive with your writing utensils, you may want to consider it. Underneath the metal exterior is the namesake of this pencil — the lead rotation mechanism that made the Kuru Toga famous. As you write, the lead rotates a millimeter every time you lift the lead off the paper. This ingenious design means you are always writing with perfectly rounded lead instead of ending up with sharp angled edges. With most pencils, you're probably used to rotating the pencil a bit once one side of the lead gets too dull. That creates a sharp contrast to the small edge that the fresh lead creates. With the Kuru Toga mechanism, you can enjoy a consistent line width since it's constantly rotating as you write. The “W Speed Engine” in some Kuru Toga mechanical pencils rotates twice as fast as standard Kuru Toga engine: 20 strokes per rotation versus 40 strokes for the standard models. The standard Kuru Toga is ideal for writing complex characters with many strokes because of its higher stroke count per rotation. Simpler scripts such as Roman characters use fewer and longer strokes. The updated engine of the Pipe Slide is ideal for such scripts because it rotates the lead faster without requiring you to lift your pencil as often. With this updated mechanism, simpler scripts remain crisp and uniform. In addition, with fewer strokes per rotation, the lead is sharpened half as much as the standard model. This is more efficient for softer leads such as 2B, which require less sharpening to maintain a narrow line.

Widths available: 0.5 mm for the Pipe Slide; 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.7 mm for the Kuru Toga standard pencil On the other hand, if you face situations where the lead is constantly breaking, the Zebra Delguard is a better option. It is further suitable for those using harsher strokes than softer ones, as there is no breaking or clogging of the lead. The Kuru Toga KS has a simplified design that won’t distract you in the middle of your notes. The rubber grip is comfortable to hold, and the revamped rotation mechanism minimizes movement of the pencil’s lead pipe.

While there are multiple variants of the Kuru Toga mechanical pencil, they all share a similar design. They have a slim barrel with a certain section that is the designated grip area, ensuring an ergonomic and comfortable grip. Kuru Toga pencils’ rotating engine prevent lead breaks but it also means there is a lot of play at the tip of the lead. Many people don’t like these pencils for this reason and instead opt for a traditional drafting pencil, like the Rotring 600, or for Zebra’s Delguard, which has its own anti-lead breaking mechanism. Types of Kuru Toga Pencils We mostly chose pencils sized 0.5 mm to 0.7 mm, but we also tested some larger sizes for those who like range. We know that different people are looking for different levels of quality (and “keepability”) in a mechanical pencil, so we also tested a range of price points, from around 15 cents to 25 dollars per pencil. We tested brands known for their mechanical pencils (like Pentel) and the big two technical drawing brands, as well as some traditionally cheaper brands like Paper Mate. Compare the best mechanical pencils This also helps increase the time for which you can continue using the same lead, effectively helping save money. 5. Anti Clog Design Some people say that pencils with plastic clutches jam more frequently than ones with brass clutches, but generally we haven’t found this to be true. The factors above, and the overall quality of your pencil and lead will be much more of a factor than the material of your clutch. Pencil Cleaning RodThis mechanical pencil is available in multiple tip sizes, including 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.7 mm. It means that it can be used for a wide range of purposes, including sketching, writing, doodling, drawing, drafting, and more. These lead pieces are responsible for causing clogging, which is a very common issue with lead pencils from many other brands. 6. Three Different Tip Sizes

Look at the clutch (the part at the front of the pencil body that holds the lead), is it moving freely? Are fragments jammed inside? Hold the pencil right-side up and push the button. Your lead will fall out, but so will anything that could jam the pencil. Uni Kuru Toga Roulette is a premium version of the fantastic Kuru Toga self-sharpening mechanical pencil. Minimalist Motion Smoky Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencils feature simple monochrome gradients on their barrels. If your pencil doesn’t include a cleaning rod you can try to find a thin piece of metal wire or safety pin, but this can be very tough to do, especially for 0.2 mm and 0.3 mm pencils. You can get creative with this and try something like a very skinny pipe cleaner, but just make sure that whatever you use for the job isn’t going to make things worse or leave any fragments inside your pencil. Pentel PPE-2 eraser with cleaning rodIt's been a while since we gave the Kuru Toga some love around here, but that's going to change with the Roulette. This pencil has been around for quite some time, but it can be easy to overlook given the sheer number of mechanical pencil options that exist today. What sets the Roulette apart from the regular Kuru Toga, you ask? Knurling. Uni-Ball KuruToga Mechanical Pencil, Uni-Ball KuruToga Automatic Pencil Starter Set, Uni Mechanical Drawing Pencil This Advance Upgrade elevates the Kuru Toga Advance to the next level. The Advance Upgrade includes the “W Speed Engine,” sliding lead sleeve, and metal clip from its predecessor. Instead of the plastic grip section on the Advance, this pencil has a metal one that is matte and textured, which makes it easier to hold. This additional metal component gives the pencil more weight while remaining well-balanced in the hand. Those who appreciate the professional look of the High Grade and the lead rotation mechanism of the Advance will find a happy medium in this pencil. The Rubber Grip version stands out from the other models with its rubber grip. Instead of a clip, this pencil has a circular knob which acts as a roll stop and adds to the sleek look. The knob is decorated with the Kuru Toga logo and is attached to the eraser cap; you can press down on either to extend the lead. The rubber grip isn’t squishy, but it offers a more tactile feel that is suited to writers with sweaty hands.

To make it easier to hold the pencil for longer periods, the Delguard mechanical pencil comes with a textured grip. This provides greater comfort than regular non-textured options and reduces hand fatigue. Additionally, a better grip reduces the chances of the pencil falling down. 3. Refillable EraserLike the best brands in the industry, Zebra offers the Delguard pencil in three tip sizes; 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.7 mm. While there isn’t a great deal of difference between the 0.3 mm and 0.5 mm pencils, the 0.7 ones are considerably smoother and darker. That said, all the tip sizes are very stable because of the lead protection mechanism. If you’re pencil doesn’t include a cleaning rod, you can buy an eraser kit that includes one. Just makes sure that the rod is the right size for your pencil — that is, not bigger than the diameter of your lead. Smaller, say 0.3 mm for a 0.5 mm pencil, is OK though!
