About this deal

with uniforms, meeting their first teacher, getting to school on the first day, making new friends, finding their way around, having fun at playtime, asking for help, packing their bag, learning about letters and numbers, going to assemblies, getting changed for PE, and much more. Here you will find all of my five minute posts on tips, tricks and advice, from things I’ve learned along the way. Tell them this is how we can ‘crack the code’ by being a detective and working out the words from the sound clues. I’m a big fan of Christmas in general however what comes along with the festive cheer and mulled wine and kids going absolutely bonkers giddy is WORK. But after the instant glee subsided another thought popped into my head, and it was this…‘Well, I wonder how this will work out.

When my baby boy was born I felt completely and utterly overwhelmed (like MANY Mums) and I couldn’t even summon the energy to brush my teeth, let alone the loo. It explains the broad basics of the curriculum in a really easy to understand way and cuts through all the jargon to tell you exactly what it is you need to actually know as a parent supporting your child at home. Cuts you down to the smallest version of yourself and then sends you soaring to the biggest, all in a matter of moments. A combination of her warm Essex wit, searing honesty about how her “Hinching” helps manage her anxiety and brilliantly simple cleaning tips have led to an appearance on This Morning and to a publishing deal - she’s currently putting the finishing touches on her first book. It’s just, you see I’m a Mum and a devoted member of the Hinch army and I felt compelled to say this.We had a wall of velcro numbers but I’ve simplified it because funnily enough I don’t own either a laminator or a printer! Now, that first ever Spider’s Web was back in 2018 but we have played this game over and over since then.

However ours isn’t there as a threat or to only do naughty things, just something fun to increase the excitement really, and like anything, you can do it YOUR way.So at first he just helped with counting and guessing the next number while I connected the circled numbers with lines. And, of course, this book includes lots of five-minute games and activities designed by Daisy to help your child feel confident and excited about taking the big step to big school.

On this page you’ll find all the games and activities I’ve played with my children since they have started school. Maybe the baby will sleep well or you’ll find a way to manage it all with him strapped to you constantly. I made it seem like it was tricky to join them up so we laughed at “Silly Mummy” and her squiggly lines. Each bit includes fun games and and activities that make homework go from being a chore to being an activity the whole family can join in with. Or if you are thinking, “oh bugger off Five Minute Mum I’ve got enough on my plate and chocolate each day is enough thanks”, then that’s all dandy too.Daisy likes to celebrate this fact by eating large quantities of chocolate oranges and creme eggs (season dependant), and dancing in the kitchen. From topics such as how to encourage water safe play to how to make baking or crafting quick and easy (and slightly less messy! So when you posted up the photo of you sharing the scan photo I did what I always do when I hear good news like that, and welled up with joy.
