the focus of this book is the "perfect" marriage of jack and grace angel: he is a handsome lawyer specializing in domestic abuse who has never lost a case while she is beautiful and demure, retired from her high-powered career to transfer her accomplishments to the realm of the domestic arts: soufflé baking, painting, gardening, and entertaining; awaiting the day her special needs sister millie will turn eighteen, leave her boarding school, and come to live with them in their perfect house and be a part of their perfect life. Jack is a truly twisted character but so, so clever that I began to despair that Grace would ever escape her situation. B A Paris is the internationally bestselling author of Behind Closed Doors, The Breakdown and Bring Me Back. As the story unfolds, both in the past and in the present I anxiously waited for the other shoe to drop.

Behind Closed Doors follows a married couple, Jack and Grace, and from the outside, it looks like they have the perfect marriage and that Grace has the perfect life — she has a beautiful home and a handsome, successful husband who never leaves her side. Grace and Millie have presented the perfect situation because their parents are not very involved in their lives. I actually thought the blurb gave too much away, and I wish I’d gone into this book without having read it. Heavner isn’t exactly mollified when Tempe, aided by retired police detective Skinny Slidell and a host of experts, puts a name to the dead man. This was a really well written book looking into teenage homelessness and how you never really know what’s going on in someone else’s life.Catherine Alliott tackles some difficult themes in the book – there were some scenes where I needed to take a break after reading – but she does so with style and empathy.

Also, Millie seemed a little too clever for someone with a low IQ—could she have successfully hidden pills, and would she Some of the considerable achievements of this important book are Vickery’s sheer mastery of the sources, the originality of her materials and methodology, and the provocations contained in her seductive prose. At first, as I looked down at her little body lying on the floor, I thought the drugs he had given me had been playing with my mind, because I was still feeling woozy. Some of their characteristics were believable, with their flaws they felt relatable in some way or another and they were also very engaging.

It’s quite an intense story and found it difficult to read at times, not because the content was graphic or gory because it wasn’t.

I read a wide range of genres and I am willing to try most genres once, but I do keep going back to both contemporary and historical fiction more than anything else. Behind Closed Doors is about a woman, Grace who is married to a handsome, wealthy and successful domestic abuse lawyer, Jack. Despite Grace’s knowledge of Jack’s real horrible intentions and horrifyingly warped interests, she’s unable escape from this domestic prison into which she has fallen. This book is almost too pleasurable, in that Vickery's style and delicious nosiness conceal some seriously weighty scholarship. One of the guests is a new acquaintance of Jack’s and his wife is making slightly bitchy comments to Grace and asking her a series of questions about her life and her relationship with her partner. It’s how the author gave us just enough information to imagine the worst — and just when we think Grace’s situation cannot get any worse, it does.
