About this deal

They say nothing ever changes, and this is certainly true of the Lyceum." (during the introduction to "Joker Hysterical Face") Early in 2007 the Fall released the Reformation Post TLC album, recorded with the same lineup that salvaged the 2006 US tour. Yet another lineup released Imperial Wax Solvent, in 2008; this lineup would hold for the following three albums, and the core of Peter Greenway (guitar), David Spurr (bass), and Keiron Melling (drums) for the remainder of the band's existence. In April 2009, the Fall signed with UK-based independent record label Domino Records. [28] [29] A new studio album, titled Your Future Our Clutter, was released on 26 April 2010. [30] This was followed in November 2011 by the album Ersatz GB. [31] In March 2012, the band were chosen by Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel to perform at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival he curated in Minehead, England. [32] The Fall released their twenty-ninth studio album, Re-Mit, in 2013. [33] [34]

A new wave personality stumbles out of the ruins... ten great Pole men and here he is, the man and his cronies... OK, maybe (...). And if I have a preference for Cary Grant, slaughterer of innocents. Add on The Fall have done many covers of the years – most successfully of the Kinks’ Victoria and R Dean Taylor’s There’s a Ghost in My House – but this one’s a bit special. By 1993, the music scene had changed dramatically as the rave generation took hold. A cover of the Chic Organization’s disco anthem – on The Infotainment Scan, which reached the top 10 and is the highest–charting Fall album ever – seems an unlikely vehicle for a renaissance, but so it proved. The original – a hit for Sister Sledge in 1979 – sounds like a hymn to clubby euphoria. However, with another new recruit – computer man Dave Bush – providing “techno shit”, Smith unearths a darker meaning to the phrase “lost in music” and pours thinly concealed scorn on those “caught in a trap” of empty-headed hedonism. It’s quintessential Fall: simultaneously capturing the energy of the times while emphasising an opposition to them. 10. Blindness In 1982, John Kennedy was Director of Business Development at Phonogram, having been their in-house lawyer since the late 1970s. He moved to CBS in 1983. Chaos Tapes was a short-lived imprint, specialising in live material by established punk artists and releasing exclusively on the cassette format; the inner sleeve of this release advertised previous releases by the likes of Anti-Pasti, Discharge, Vice Squad, Chelsea and G.B.H. Reissues [ edit ]This era is often regarded as a high point in the band's creative history, as noted by Ned Raggett of Allmusic who retrospectively described the late years with Riley and shortly after his departure as "three years during which the band couldn't seem to make a wrong step." Eat Y’Self Fitter This era, a favourite period amongst many critics and fans, was marked by Brix's effort to find a wider audience for the Fall. They achieved a few modest UK hits with singles, including their versions of R. Dean Taylor's " There's a Ghost in My House" (no. 30, 1987) and the Kinks' " Victoria" (no. 35, 1988) and their own songs " Hey! Luciani" (no. 59, 1986) and " Hit the North" (no. 57, 1987), [24] and enjoyed a string of critically acclaimed albums: The Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall (1984), This Nation's Saving Grace (1985), Bend Sinister (1986), and The Frenz Experiment (1988). I Am Kurious, Oranj is notable as the fruit of a ballet project between Smith and dancer Michael Clark. Simon Rogers and later Marcia Schofield played keyboards. Paul Hanley quit during the tour supporting The Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall, and Simon Wolstencroft replaced other drummer Burns after This Nation's Saving Grace. Wolstencroft becoming sole drummer shifted the group's sound; his drumming was described as "nimble" and "funky" when compared to Burns. [21] In 2014 Wolstencroft published a memoir You Can Drum But You Can't Hide [25] about his 11-year stint in the Fall.Kay Carroll: "You need the keyboard, Mark". MES: "What?" Kay: "You need to (...) that keyboard. Mark!" MES: "Yeah?" Kay: "That one... the other one." MES: "Yeah, turn (...)." [Keyboard whine disappears] Released on Voiceprint/Cog Sinister in 1998 as "Live to Air in Melbourne." The gig was broadcast on the radio and Voiceprint used an off-air cassette as their source. Thanks to Vin O'Shea for the invitation. Sonic Youth covered three Fall songs (and " Victoria" by the Kinks, also covered by the Fall) in a 1988 Peel session, which was released in 1990 as an EP, " 4 Tunna Brix", on Sonic Youth's own Goofin' label. The Pixies covered "Big New Prinz" during their 2013 world tour. [61] The 1990s indie acts Pavement (who recorded a version of "The Classical") and Elastica (Smith contributed vocals to their final EP and album) showed an influence of the Fall, while Suede parodied the band with "Implement Yeah!", a song found on the cassette edition of their 1999 single, " Electricity". [62] Jaw-Bone and the Air Rifle is a pinnacle of Smiths pagan mystic story-telling. It’s a surrealist parable which will forever baffle and delight. Musically wonderful too. Featuring the classic line-up of Mark E. Smith alongside Steve Hanley (bass), Craig Scanlon (guitar), Karl Burns (drums), Paul Hanley (drums) and Marc Riley (guitar). OCTOBER 19

Also, a Dutch weekly newspaper covering 19-25 June lists a band called Flavium on this night. It doesn't rule out the possibility of The Fall replacing Flavium at the last minute. Thanks to Dannyno for spotting. The Netherlands : ca. 1 - 15 June. According to an interview in TBLY with Steve Davies, there were 11 gigs in 14 days on this Dutch tour, so this part of the gigography is very incomplete. (More recently, on an Oh! Brother podcast, Steve Hanley thought there were 6-8 gigs on the tour and a lot of sitting around in squats.Fragments of Smith's lyrics often appeared handwritten on early Fall album and single covers, along with collages he had put together. In a 1983 interview with Sounds, Smith said that he liked artwork to reflect the album content and that his graphic choices reflected his attitude to music. He mentioned how he was drawn to cheap and misspelled posters, amateur layouts of local papers and printed cash and carry signs with "inverted commas where you don't need them".
